kayaking and Canoeing in the Farmville Blueway paddle Trail

Enjoy a leisurely day on the water along this protected stream corridor exclusively for recreational kayaking and canoeing in Farmville, Virginia. Running through portions of Wilck's Lake, Buffalo Creek and the Appomattox River, the four-mile Farmville Blueway Paddle Trail meanders from the Wilck's Lake boat ramp to the take-out at Riverside Park. Along the way, soak up serene scenery and tranquil nature as you slowly make your way down the trail or pick from the Upper Blueway or Lower Blueway segments. Plan on paddle times from one hour to three depending on the length of the trail you choose and water conditions. You can stop by the Farmville Town Office and Virginia's Heartland Regional Visitor Center for more details about the trail.

If you want to experience Farmville from the peaceful perspective of the Farmville Blueway Paddle Trail, first stop at the Outdoor Adventure Park.  This outfitter will get you geared up with tandem or solo kayaks and double and single canoes that you can rent. Then all you have to do is head out to the four-mile paddle trail and get set for some fun on the water. Canoeing and kayaking on the tranquil waterways is suitable for all ages and skill levels. Helmets, life jackets and safety equipment is included with your kayak and canoe rental.

What wildlife can I see along the Farmville Blueway?

All along the Farmville Blueway you will have the chance to see native flora and fauna thriving in and around the water. Wilck's Lake is a 150-acre nature area that offers great paddling and several miles of hiking trails that circumnavigate the lake. You'll encounter water birds like heron, ducks, geese, kingfisher and osprey plus abundant wildlife like muskrat, beaver, otter, mink, racoon, deer, foxes, rabbits, squirrels and even a few non-poisonous snakes.
