The centerpiece of High Bridge Trail State Park is the 31-mile hiking, biking and horseback riding trail. The focal point of the rail-trail is the one-half mile bridge that towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. But beyond the thrill of walking or riding over High Bridge, you can also enjoy natural scenery all along route. Explore the longest recreational bridge in Virginia and among the longest in the country. On your adventure, you will by historic sites, including the Appomattox Court House, where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered. Hiking or biking this trail is one of many fun activities for families in Farmville. A Virginia Historic Landmark, High Bridge Trails connects people to nature, history and culture. How long is High Bridge Trail?

There's something for everyone on this crushed stone, rail-to-trail pathway that runs 32.4 miles from Pamplin City to Burkeville, VA. The trail is broken down into easy, smaller segments of 3 to 5 miles and passes directly through Farmville, making it easy for people of all ages to enjoy the trail. From Farmville, High Bridge itself is a short 4.4 miles away, making it a scenic roundtrip that's less than 9 miles in total.

Where should I park to get to the High Bridge Trail?

It is easy to access the trail from numerous points along the way and paid parking is available in eight locations. In Farmville, you can park at any of the following spots:
  • The municipal lots where the trail intersects Main Street
  • On Osborn Road, just .25 miles off N. Main Street
  • On River Road, 3 miles off N. Main Street
